Village Enterprise is a microenterprise development
organization working in East Africa. Its mission is to equip people living in
extreme poverty with resources to create sustainable businesses. It provides
business training, seed capital/start-up funds, and on-going mentoring to new
entrepreneurs to start businesses.
About the Job:
Village Enterprise is seeking Kenya Country Director. S/he
will lead the field-level program implementation, manage a team of field
coordinators, business mentors, and office staff, supervise the implementation
of innovative pilot projects as well as current special projects. S/he will
report to the senior director of programs and operations. The position is based
in Kakamega, but there shall be a relocation to Kitale within the first yeazr.
Tasks and
Responsibilities:

Manage a team of staff consisting of assistant
country director, business mentors, field coordinators, and office staff;
·
Write reports for funders;
·
Oversee and increase the quality and efficiency
of core and special projects;
·
Manage relations with external partners and
organizations;
·
Supervise the training of staff and enumerators
on data collection/interviewing, data entry, analysis, and other tasks as
required;
·
Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and
expansion of the organization's core program;
·
Provide management oversight and leadership, in
cooperation with the senior director of programs and operations, country
directors in other country offices;
·
Promote a strong work ethic among all team
members, leading by example as well as coaching and mentoring;
·
Act as a liaison between the field team and
development team in the US;
·
Join on weekly evening calls with the US team
and other partners, as required.
Qualifications:
·
Master's degree strongly preferred with
concentration in Development or Agricultural Economics, International
Development, Public Policy, Statistics, Business or other applied social
research;
·
More than 6 years of work experience in:
·
Management/leadership role is required;
·
Living/working/traveling in a developing country
or emerging economy;
·
Project design, business planning, product
innovation or other entrepreneurial activities;
·
Budget design and oversight;
·
Managing a team of an innovative organization;
·
Adopting new technologies.
·
Ability to use Excel to analyze data, budgets,
and financial reports;
·
Experience working as part of a diverse team and
willingness to work via email, skype, and other internet based communications;
·
Strong writing and oral communication English
skills required, as this role will involve report writing and training at
times;
·
Fluency in English and Swahili required.
