One Acre Fund is a start-up NGO in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi that is helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. They provide farmers with a "market bundle" that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market access.

About the Job:

One Acre is seeking a Microfinance Partnerships Manager. S/he will will help to build an association of organizations with experience in agricultural microfinance, and will then help to lead the emerging agricultural microfinance movement. The position is based in Nairobi. Working from any major European city is also possible. The position requires a minimum commitment of two years.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  •     Build meaningful and genuine one-on-one relationships with worldwide microfinance leaders:
  •         Travel frequently within East and West Africa in particular;
  •         Leverage organization’s existing relationships to discover new relationships;
  •         Build real relationships with some of the most effective organizations in the world.
  •     Help to build the overall agricultural finance movement:
  •         Promote core principles that distinguish us from the regular microfinance movement (e.g. asset finance, training, retail of seed and fertilizer);
  •         Play a potential role in helping to consolidate an industry association.
  •     Initiate a targeted number of partnerships over several years:
  •         Work closely with organization's core operating staff and help to determine partnership strategy;
  •         Write MOUs and take the lead on communicating with the partner;
  •         Continue to be involved strategically, after organization staffs an internal operations staff to the partnership.

Qualifications:

  •     Past operating experience as a top leader in an MFI. Entrepreneurial, with a strong business mind and understands operations;
  •     Demonstrated experience building and managing relationships;
  •     Excellent communications and presentation skills;
  •     Ability to travel extensively, up to 30 percent within Africa and other international destinations.
