Purpose of the Position
Supporting the planning, development and implementation of Early Childhood Development Programmes in ESARO, including support for
(a) scaling up national UNICEF programmes towards achieving MTSP targets, contributing to all relevant millennium development goals and effectively supporting UNICEF`s contribution to poverty reduction;

(b) leveraging resources in support of developing ECD policy and practice, partnerships and mobilisation, as well as advocacy;

(c) coordinating with all outcome areas as indicated in the OMP and MTSP child survival and development, basic education and girls` empowerment, child protection, HIV/AIDS and social policy. Linkages will be forged to enhance synergy and holistic planning and policy development for early childhood development,

(d) providing leadership for education interventions in ECD in ESARO linked to the overall Basic Education and Gender Programme objectives, ensuring that these are clearly linked to government priorities in policy and planning for ECD across sectors.


Qualifications of Successful Candidate
  •     Advanced university degree in any of the following: Social Sciences, Public Health, Education, or other fields related to the work of UNICEF.
  •     Eight years of relevant work experience at the national and international levels in social development, management, monitoring and evaluation, including specific experience in ECD.
  •     Fluency in English and another UN working language.
  •     A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

  •     initiates and generates team- and department-wide activities.
  •     Demonstrates, applies and shares expert technical knowledge across the organization.
