Position Loans Project Manager Department Finance and Administration Term Full-Time 1-year renewable contract

Position Description:
Heshima Kenya (HK) is a non-profit organization headquartered in the US, with NGO status and operations in Nairobi, Kenya. HK is dedicated to identifying, protecting and empowering unaccompanied refugee minors, especially adolescent girls, through our specialized shelter, education and advocacy programs. HK’s funding is primarily from the US from private donors, family foundations, with larger funding from the US Department of State, while receiving minimal private donations from Kenya. This individual reports directly to the Finance and Administration Manager for Kenyan Operations.

Primary Responsibilities:


  •     Meet with loan applicants to obtain information for loan applications and to answer questions about the process. Work with applicants to identify their financial goals and find ways of reaching those goals.
  •     Ensure loan applications are complete, accurate, properly supported and are in accordance with relevant financial rules, regulations and procedures with adequate budget provisions.
  •     Compute payment schedules and submit applications to the Finance and Administration Manager for verification and recommendation.
  •     Design loan control systems, procedures and standards within the Project.
  •     Supervise, implement and administer approved UN Women loans in compliance with the donor requirements.
  •     Follow up loan repayments from the existing borrowers.
  •     Prepare loan statements on a monthly basis for onward transmission to borrowers and management.
  •     Maintain all accounting records and documents for the project.
  •     Review, update and maintain relevant hard and electronic records and files related to the finance function of the project.
  •     Work in collaboration with the Communications Consultant to support Monitoring and Evaluation and reporting for the UN Women grant, including creating tools to track individual progress and impact.
  •     Document and promote learning, feedback and knowledge sharing on results and lessons learned, as basis for decision-making on policies, strategies, program management, and projects and so to improve knowledge and performance.
  •     Write report for UN Women that ultimately addressees best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.
  •     Prepare financial reports for the Board on a bi-monthly basis
  •     Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:

  •     A degree in Business Administration or Commerce and a minimum of CPA (II) or its equivalent
  •     Knowledge and experience with NGO accounting legal requirements, guidelines, fiscal responsibility, and reporting in Kenya with specialty in NGO guidelines and compliance.
  •     Proficient in Microsoft Office, including intermediate skill level in Excel.
  •     Excellent inter-personal skills, can work independently and within a team.
  •     Must have high organizational skills.
  •     Experience in micro finance operations preferred.
  •     Knowledge in management of a production workshop very desirable.
  •     Must have attention to detail.
