CARANA Corporation is recruiting multiple technical specialists for the anticipated 2 year USAID-funded Power Africa project, based in Nairobi, Kenya. Lifting power constraints on trade growth activities while limiting long-term greenhouse gas emissions, Power Africa synthesizes economic strategy with energy reform. The project will provide technical assistance, capacity building and project transaction support services towards the energy reform initiatives established by priority Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The project will also partner with Uganda, Mozambique and the South Sudan on responsible management of gas and oil resources.

CARANA is recruiting for energy and infrastructure finance experts available for short term and long term assignments with expertise in one or more of the following technical areas:


  •     Electricity generation, transmission, and distribution (on-grid, off-grid/mini-grids, renewable, rural electrification) involving project development, advisory services, policy support, capacity building for utilities and regulatory bodies and technical services).
  •     Conventional and renewable energy transactions (including feasibility studies, financial advisory services, legal advisory services, PPA negotiations and technical solutions).
  •     Renewable Energy, including hydro, solar, wind, bio-energy, geothermal
  •     Energy and infrastructure finance (including privatization, deal structuring, project finance) leveraging EXIM and OPIC instruments
  •     Power pools and cross border energy trading
  •     Legal and regulatory environments and policy reform programs in energy/electricity sectors and natural resource management (focused on gas) and related capacity building support for regulatory bodies.
  •     Low Emissions Development Strategies (LEDS)
  •     Natural gas production and transmission (legal and regulatory environment, concessions, capacity building for regulatory bodies).

Qualifications:

  •     Minimum of 10 years of experience with a proven ability to work with various stakeholders, including high level government, business, finance and USAID counterparts.
  •     Masters degree in relevant subject area
  •     Previous experience on USAID or other donor-funded projects in Africa a plus.
